BARCELONA & PISA/TUSCANY

As part of our unforgettable Mediterranean cruise beginning and ending in Rome, we are planning two spectacular featured touring days designed to showcase some of the most beautiful, iconic, and breathtaking locations in all of Europe.

These are not ordinary cruise excursions.

These are carefully selected experiences that combine incredible scenery, world-famous landmarks, rich culture, unforgettable food, and the kind of moments you will remember for years to come.

BARCELONA, SPAIN

THE WONDER OF LA SAGRADA FAMÍLIA

One of the absolute highlights of our cruise will be our day in the beautiful Mediterranean city of Barcelona.

Our featured experience will be visiting the world-famous Sagrada Família, the breathtaking cathedral designed by Antoni Gaudí and considered by many to be one of the most extraordinary buildings on earth.

Pictures simply cannot prepare you for what it feels like to step inside.

Massive stained-glass windows flood the sanctuary with brilliant colors as sunlight pours across towering columns designed to resemble a forest stretching toward heaven. Every detail throughout the cathedral is filled with symbolism, beauty, and artistic genius.

The Nativity façade vividly depicts the birth of Christ, while the dramatic Passion façade powerfully portrays the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus. Everywhere you look, the craftsmanship and biblical imagery are absolutely astonishing.

Beyond La Sagrada Família, we will also experience the beauty and energy of Barcelona itself:

  • Historic streets
  • Mediterranean coastline
  • Charming plazas
  • Beautiful architecture
  • Local markets and cafés
  • Incredible Spanish culture

Barcelona is vibrant, colorful, elegant, and unforgettable — one of the true jewels of Europe.

This will be a day filled with wonder, beauty, amazing fellowship, and unforgettable memories.

PISA & THE BEAUTY OF TUSCANY

A CLASSIC ITALIAN EXPERIENCE

The brilliant white marble of the Leaning Tower, Cathedral, and Baptistery against the blue Tuscan sky creates a scene that is truly unforgettable.

But this day is about more than just seeing a famous tower.

This excursion allows us to experience the timeless beauty and atmosphere of Tuscany itself:

  • Rolling countryside

Come Early (Rome Pre-Extension)

MAY 23-26

Rome Pre-extension— $1,599 cost per person (rates based on double occupancy)*

WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF PAUL

A Two-Day Biblical Rome Experience Before Our Steps of Paul Cruise

Before we sail in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul across the Mediterranean, we are inviting you to join us for an unforgettable two-day pre-extension in one of the most important cities in the history of Christianity… Rome.

This is not just another sightseeing tour.

This is an opportunity to stand where the Apostle Paul stood. To walk the roads he walked. To see the places where the early church suffered, preached, endured persecution, and changed the world forever through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Rome is where Paul was imprisoned.
Rome is where Peter ministered and was martyred.
Rome is where Christianity collided head-on with the power of the Roman Empire.

And over these two incredible days, we will experience both the grandeur of ancient Rome and the powerful biblical story that unfolded here.

And adding to the experience, our group will stay 3 Nights at the beautiful 4 star hotel Rome Central, opening this summer in the heart of Rome. This stunning new 4 star hotel property places us close to the historic center while providing the comfort, quality, and modern elegance you would expect from a premier 4 star hotel experience.

DAY ONE

IMPERIAL ROME, PAUL’S IMPRISONMENT & THE RISE OF CHRISTIANITY

We will begin our day at the world-famous Colosseum, one of the most recognizable structures on earth. Standing inside this massive arena, we will discuss the rise of imperial Rome, the culture of persecution, and the tremendous courage of early Christians who lived under Roman rule.

From there, we will walk through the Roman Forum, the political and religious center of the empire during the days of the New Testament. As we move through these ancient ruins, Scripture will come alive as we discuss Roman citizenship, emperor worship, and why the gospel spread so rapidly throughout the Roman world.

One of the absolute highlights of the day will be standing before the Arch of Titus, one of the most important biblical artifacts in Rome. Built after the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, the arch still contains carvings of the golden menorah and treasures taken from the Jewish Temple exactly as Jesus prophesied.

You won’t just read about biblical history… you’ll see it carved in stone.

We will also visit the Mamertine Prison, traditionally recognized as the prison where both Paul and Peter were held. Imagine standing in the dark underground chamber where Paul may have written some of his final words before martyrdom:

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Throughout the afternoon we will stroll through some of Rome’s most iconic locations including:

  • Trevi Fountain
  • Pantheon
  • Spanish Steps
  • Piazza Venezia
  • Ancient Roman streets and piazzas

Along the way, we will enjoy authentic Roman cuisine, incredible fellowship, unforgettable teaching moments, and the beauty of one of the greatest cities in the world.

DAY TWO

THE VATICAN, PETER, THE CATACOMBS & THE APPIAN WAY

Our second day focuses on the explosive growth of Christianity in Rome and the legacy of Peter and Paul.

We will begin at the Vatican Museums and the breathtaking Sistine Chapel before entering the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica, built over the traditional burial site of the Apostle Peter.

Here we will discuss:

  • Peter’s ministry in Rome
  • The persecution under Nero
  • The growth of the early church
  • The incredible transformation of Christianity from persecuted movement to global faith

From there we travel to the Catacombs of Callixtus, where early Christians buried their dead and secretly worshiped during times of persecution. Walking through these underground passages is one of the most powerful experiences in Rome and gives incredible insight into the faith and hope of the early church.

We will then drive along the ancient Appian Way Regional Park, one of the oldest roads in the Roman Empire and likely the route Paul traveled as he entered Rome under guard in Acts 28.

Finally, we will conclude at the incredible Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, traditionally built over the burial site of the Apostle Paul himself.

For many believers, this becomes one of the most emotional moments of the entire trip.

THIS IS FAR MORE THAN A TOUR

This experience has been carefully designed to combine:

  • biblical teaching
  • church history
  • archaeology
  • spiritual encouragement
  • fellowship
  • world-class sightseeing
  • incredible food
  • unforgettable moments

You will not simply “see Rome.”

You will experience the story of the New Testament in one of the most important cities in Christian history.

THE VALUE OF THIS EXPERIENCE

A comparable private Rome experience with guided tours, skip-the-line entries, transportation, Vatican access, the Colosseum, Catacombs, and biblical teaching can easily cost hundreds of dollars per person when booked independently. This extension allows us to experience these world-class sites together with carefully planned logistics, rich biblical teaching, fellowship, and the convenience of traveling as a church family.

WHY THIS MATTERS

There is something deeply moving about opening your Bible in the very places where these events happened.

The New Testament becomes more real.
The courage of the early church becomes more tangible.
The cost of following Christ becomes more visible.
And the greatness of the gospel shines even brighter against the backdrop of the Roman Empire.

Come walk where Paul walked.

Stand where Peter stood.

See the world of the New Testament come alive before your eyes.

This will be an unforgettable beginning to our Steps of Paul journey.

* City Tax- The city tax of €10.00 per person, per night is not included in the rate.

FAQ's

Q: Which travel documents do I need for this trip?

A: You’re responsible for traveling with the correct, valid documents.

  • International cruises: Every guest on your reservation—including children—must have a passport valid for at least six (6) months after your trip ends.
  • U.S. domestic cruises: We strongly recommend that every guest travel with a passport meeting the same 6-month validity rule, even if other ID may be accepted.

Non-U.S. citizens: Requirements vary. Please check with your embassy or consulate for entry, transit, and re-entry rules for every country on your itinerary, and obtain any required visas in advance.

Q: What should I pack for a Mediterranean cruise?

A: Think Southern California weather: warm, dry summers and mild, cooler winters. Sea breezes moderate extremes, but evenings can feel breezy. Pack layers and comfortable shoes.

Pro tip: Put a change of clothes, toiletries, and all essential meds in your carry-on.

Packing Checklist

  • Casual wear: pants/jeans, shorts, T-shirts, collared shirts or blouses
  • Light layer: lightweight sweater or jacket
  • Evening outfit: 1–2 semi-formal looks (cruise length depending)
  • Swim gear: bathing suit + cover-up/wrap
  • Rain protection: compact umbrella or light raincoat
  • Footwear: comfortable walking shoes or rubber-soled sandals
  • Sun gear: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
  • Toiletries: in a sealed, clear bag inside luggage
  • Mini first-aid: bandages, pain reliever, hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Medications: in original containers (carry-on)
  • Hair tools: (see next FAQ for ship voltage/plug info)
  • Day bag: small backpack/tote for port days (camera, water, essentials)

••Travel documents: passport + photocopy kept separately

Q: What electronics can I bring and use on my Mediterranean cruise?

A: You can bring most everyday devices. Staterooms typically have both 110V (U.S.) and 220V (European) outlets, so phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, and e-readers are easy to charge.

Phones, Laptops, Cameras

  • Chargers for small digital devices usually plug in without issue.
  • Outlets are limited—pack a non-surge multi-port USB charger or small non-surge power strip. (Surge-protected strips are often not allowed.)

Hair Dryers & Styling Tools

  • A hair dryer is provided in every stateroom.
  • If you bring your own hair tools, choose compact, dual-voltage models (110–240V).

Staying in Hotels Before/After the Cruise (Overseas)

Mediterranean hotels commonly use Type C or Type F sockets and 220–240V power.

  • Adapters (plug shape only): Bring a Type C adapter (works in Type F, too). A universal adapter is handy if you travel often.
  • Dual-Voltage Appliances: Many chargers and some hair tools are dual voltage—check the label for “110–240V.” If there’s a manual switch, set it correctly before use.
  • Converters (voltage change): Needed only for non–dual-voltage U.S. devices. Converters are bulkier and cost more; when possible, use dual-voltage gear instead.

Tip: Pack electronics and essential meds in your carry-on.

Q: Can I use my cell phone on a Mediterranean cruise?

A: Yes—most guests use phones for photos, messages, maps, and calls. To avoid surprise charges and keep things simple, follow these tips.

Before You Go

  • Call your carrier. Ask about international roaming in Europe and any cruise/ship plans (maritime roaming is different and often pricier). Confirm rates for calls, texts, and data.
  • Add a plan or eSIM. Consider an international day pass or regional eSIM for port days.
  • Know the costs. Ship networks use satellite; charges are typically higher than on land.

On the Ship

  • Avoid accidental roaming. Unless you’ve bought a ship plan, keep your phone in Airplane Mode and use the ship’s Wi-Fi (purchase a package if you need internet).
  • Charge nightly. Outlets are limited; bring a non-surge multi-port USB charger.
  • Save battery. Dim screen, close unused apps, and disable background refresh.

In Port

  • Turn Airplane Mode off only if your international plan is active; otherwise keep it on and use Wi-Fi.
  • Maps & tickets offline. Download maps, boarding passes, and tickets ahead of time.

Time Settings

  • To avoid random time shifts, set your phone’s time zone manually to the ship’s printed schedule—or double-check times daily if you prefer “Automatic.”

Smart Smartphone Moves

  • Data controls: Turn off Data Roaming when you don’t need it; switch email and app updates to manual.
  • Notifications: Disable nonessential push alerts (sports, stocks, weather) to save data and battery.
  • Messaging: Use Wi-Fi calling or apps like WhatsApp, iMessage, or Messenger over Wi-Fi.

If You Don’t Bring a Mobile

  • You can place calls from hotel or ship phones, but confirm rates first.

••Consider prepaid calling cards or stick to Wi-Fi messaging apps when available.

Several of your featured experiences are already included as part of this cruise experience, including our planned group experiences in Barcelona and Pisa/Tuscany.

After booking your cruise, simply visit MSC’s website and log in using your reservation number found on your invoice.

From there you can:

  • browse available shore excursions

  • view pricing and descriptions
  • pre-book experiences before the cruise

Popular excursions and activities can sell out, so we strongly recommend booking early once excursions become available.

Guests may also book many independent tours and experiences directly through local providers at each port.

If you would like recommendations, help choosing excursions, or advice on what is worth doing at each destination, we are happy to help.

Q: How should I handle money and credit cards in the Mediterranean?

A: Keep it simple and fee-smart.

Before you go

  • Bring only 1–2 primary cards (Visa/Mastercard preferred).
  • Notify your bank(s) of travel dates/regions; store card emergency numbers separately.
  • Choose a card with no foreign transaction fees if possible.

Using cards & cash

  • Cards are widely accepted; use credit for purchases (better protection) and debit mainly for ATMs.
  • ATMs usually offer the best exchange rate—decline “dynamic currency conversion” and charge in local currency.
  • Carry a little small-bill cash for markets, taxis, and small vendors.

Currencies you’ll see

  • Euro (€): Used across much of Europe; U.S. dollars aren’t widely accepted. Get some euros from your bank or an ATM on arrival.

Quick tips

  • Keep a backup card in a separate spot.
  • Use a money belt or RFID wallet in crowds.

••Check rates/fees in your banking app; consider locking your card when not in use.

Q: How do tips and service charges work—and can I change them?

A: Cruises make it easy to reward great service while you explore multiple destinations without packing/unpacking or hunting for restaurants.

  • Automatic daily gratuities: Most lines add about $16–$25 per guest, per day (varies by cabin category) to cover dining and stateroom services.
  • Other service charges: Expect an additional 18–20% on beverages and spa/salon purchases.

Adjusting or removing gratuities:
If you prefer to tip differently—especially for services you didn’t use (e.g., bars if you don’t order drinks)—visit Guest Services on board. You can increase, reduce, or remove automatic gratuities and direct tips where you feel they’re earned.

Common off-ship guidelines

  • Porters at the pier: about $1–$2 per bag when you hand off luggage.
  • Taxis/rideshares: rounding up or ~10–15% is appreciated.
  • Restaurants ashore: ~15–20% for table service.

Bottom line: automatic tips are there for convenience, but you control how you tip—just stop by Guest Services to customize it.
